Aditya Dhar’s Brutal Sequel Delivers Intense Action
Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge leaves no body part undamaged throughout its runtime. The sequel follows the pulse-pounding spy thriller released in December 2025. Moreover, it continues the intense action from the first installment. The mystery surrounding Hamza’s identity was placed at the fulcrum of Part 1. Additionally, his true motives were explored throughout that film.
The film worked with audiences across ideological beliefs despite its pro-establishment propaganda. Strong storytelling became the foundation of its success. Furthermore, the hero came with grey shades that made him interesting. A sly villain added tension to the narrative. Well-etched supporting characters provided depth to the story.
Additionally, a convenient romance didn’t dilute the plot at all. Adequate suspense kept viewers engaged throughout the runtime. Breakneck pacing ensured the film never felt slow. However, Part 2 takes a different approach entirely. It is angrier, louder, and more blatant in its messaging.
Hamza’s Brutal Origin Story Unveiled
Dhurandhar: The Revenge opens with Hamza’s compelling origin story. Jaskirat Singh appears as a fauji-in-the-making initially. However, his dreams are shattered by a violent crime. This tragedy breaks his home apart completely.
The opening fight sequence establishes his character powerfully. He emerges as an avenging angel seeking justice. Moreover, he becomes a rage machine fueled by vengeance. He transforms into a man on a mission.
Furthermore, he turns into a pulverising powder keg of violence. He skewers people like they’re kebabs throughout the action. Additionally, he shoots them in their genitals brutally. He sticks sharp objects into eyeballs without hesitation.
He acts like a deranged surgeon who cannot be contained. The film makes its point very clearly. We understand his rage immediately. The violence establishes his character effectively.
Focusing on New Territory Instead of Repetition
We already know what Jaskirat did as Hamza previously. He worked as the Indian mole in the Pakistani political scene. Additionally, he infiltrated the crime scene there successfully. Therefore, we’re hoping for more story to drop in the sequel.
However, Dhar appears to have succeeded in this approach. He doesn’t get into Jaskirat’s story too much this time. Instead, he used up all his material in the film. This decision keeps the narrative moving forward constantly.
Political Messaging Takes Center Stage
Hamza’s mission focuses on bloodshed throughout the film. Meanwhile, Dhar’s mission appears to be whitewash clearly. The film unabashedly sells a specific narrative about recent history.
It suggests the Modi government’s hugely criticised decision came from compelling intel. In this manufactured reality, demonetisation served a specific purpose. The film claims it was driven by discovering a top-secret conspiracy. This conspiracy allegedly aimed to destabilise the Indian government.
According to the narrative, we must all be grateful. We should appreciate standing in mile-long ATM queues back in 2016. The plot arranges itself into a toadying script carefully. It favors the “chaiwala” and his loyal right-hand man prominently.
Ajay Sanyal appears as a key character in the story. R Madhavan plays a barely disguised version of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. There is even a reference to the friendship new India enjoys. Specifically, this friendship with Israel gets mentioned prominently.
However, this reference couldn’t have been made at a worse time. The ongoing geopolitical turmoil has brought the world to the brink. Therefore, this mention feels particularly tone-deaf currently.
Dawood Ibrahim’s Questionable Role
Gangster Dawood Ibrahim also appears in the picture. If Dhar is to be believed, his powers have been effectively neutralised. The Indian government accomplished this years ago supposedly. We’re meant to celebrate this as viewers.
However, it’s unclear what exactly the government has achieved. A large part of the plot deals with the damage he’s still unleashing. This contradiction undermines the celebratory tone significantly. The logic doesn’t quite add up properly.
Missing Strong Antagonist Weakens Impact
Even if you take all of this spin doctoring with a truckload of salt, the film faces challenges. Dhurandhar 2 is slightly hampered by specific weaknesses. Its lack of a strong antagonist becomes noticeable. Additionally, it lacks purpose beyond propaganda messaging.
Akshaye Khanna played Rehman Dakait in the first film. As the leader of the Balochs, he brought a smouldering intensity. His elimination leaves a gaping hole in the sequel. None of the other members of the cast is able to fill it.
Major Iqbal’s transformation comes too little, too late. Arjun Rampal plays this character with dedication. However, the impact never fully materializes on screen.
Technical Aspects Maintain High Quality
The background score was as effective as it was in the first film. It’s very nice and atmospheric throughout. Moreover, it has the same nostalgic value that Part 1 inspired. The music enhances the viewing experience significantly.
There is more blood visible on screen this time. Additionally, there is more gore than the predecessor. More Hindutva messaging appears throughout the narrative. Furthermore, more fearmongering tactics are employed consistently.
If the first film had a beheading scene, the second goes further. It has a beheading and a character playing football with the detached head. The violence escalates to new levels entirely.
Bombs feature prominently in action sequences. Grenades explode throughout the runtime. Guns fire constantly during fight scenes. Knives cut through the action regularly.
Standout Performances Anchor the Film
Even so, Ranveer Singh pulls no punches playing Hamza. He anchors the film with his agility impressively. Additionally, his presence commands attention throughout every scene. His commitment to the role shines through clearly.
Sanjay Dutt’s SP plods along unpredictable lines surprisingly. He offers surprises throughout his performance. His character brings unexpected elements to the story.
Bedi once again proves his mettle effectively. He excels in the role of the despicable Jameel. His impeccable comic timing ensures you occasionally wake up. These moments break you from your comatose state temporarily.
The pace drags towards the end unfortunately. The lengthy runtime exceeds 3 hours and 50 minutes. Dhar tries stuffing more and more into a sieve. The film could have benefited from tighter editing.
Future Installments Remain Uncertain
Is Jaskirat Singh done yet with his story? Will there be a Part 3 announced soon? What more can be done with a detached head? Should they send it to space perhaps?
We will have to wait and see what happens. The franchise’s future remains unclear currently. However, the door stays open for continuation.

Despite its flaws, Dhurandhar: The Revenge delivers intense action. Ranveer Singh’s powerful performance carries the film effectively. The technical aspects maintain high quality throughout. However, the heavy-handed political messaging may divide audiences. Nevertheless, action fans will find plenty to enjoy here.
